The invention relates to a device for collecting and conveying bulk material dropping onto a surface. It consists of a trough, a conveying screw arranged in the trough and a roof-like cover arranged over the conveying screw which is adjustable to form a variable inlet aperture for the conveying screw. According to the invention, in such conveyors, the maximum possible intake width of the trough in which the conveying screw is arranged is to be combined with the minimum possible structural height thereof. To this end, the side walls of the trough each have a bend extending parallel to the axis of the conveying screw, the partial sections of the side walls of the trough which extend upwards from each bend, away from the conveying screw, extending at an angle equal to or greater than the angle at which the bulk material slides, but less than its angle of repose and intersecting the tangential planes attached to the outer periphery of the conveying screw at the angle of repose of the bulk material, and the bends are arranged above the straight line of contact between the tangential planes and the outer periphery, and the partial sections of the longitudinal walls of the trough, extending downwards from the bend, likewise intersect the tangential planes.
