In a device for the individual feeding of sheets stacked in a magazine to the platen (10) of an office machine, the pile (30) is pivoted onto the separating roller (28) only during the separation and feeding of a sheet. During the printing operation, the pile (30) remains pivoted away from the separating roller (28) so that the platen (10) can be turned forwards and backwards as required during the printing operation. The pivoting of the pile (30) onto the separating roller (28) takes place while the separating roller (28) is stationary in order to prevent misaligned feeding of the sheet. The drive of the separating roller (28) and of the control mechanism for pivoting the pile (30) away takes place via the same gear mechanism by means of the platen (10). The point of action of the control mechanism on the pile (30) is variable and adapts to the thickness of the pile (30). <IMAGE>
