NEW MATERIAL:The alkanesulfonate derivative of formula I (R<1> is 1-12C alkyl; R<2> if R<1> or halogen-substituted 1-4C alkyl; x is 0-2). EXAMPLE:6-N-propylthio-20pyridylmethanesulfonate. USE:Insecticidal, miticidal and nematocidal agent effective to the larva of green rice leafhopper and common gnat and imago of two-spotted spider mite, etc. Vermin on the leaf can be controlled by applying the agent to the base of the plant as well as by contacting with the vermin. It can be used also as a systemic insecticide having extremely low phytotoxicity to the host crop. It can be applied in paddy field, plowed land, orchard, forest, etc. PREPARATION:The compound of formula I can be prepared by reacting the compound of formula II (Y is H, alkali metal or alkaline earth metal) with sulfonyl chloride of formula III or sulfonic anhydride of an acid acceptor, at -10-+100 deg.C, preferably 0-40 deg.C for 0.5-10 hr.
