<p>A knee joint endoprosthesis consisting of an upper portion provided with two sliding surfaces offering a space between them, which are linked at the front with one another, whose curvature increases from front to rear and which are also curved in planes perpendicular to this curvature, consisting also of a section of tibia having two surfaces on which the sliding surfaces run smoothly and between which there is a raised portion, and consisting also of plastic connection means which hold the two parts of the prosthesis together. The invention is based on the fact that the outer surface (2) of the section of tibia is essentially level from front to rear in a middle cutting plane, that the inner surface (1) of the tibia is slightly concave from front to rear in a middle cutting plane, that the downward slope (6) of the raised portion (3,4) towards the outer surface (2) is flatter than that (5) of the raised portion (3, 4) towards the inner surface (1) and that the parts of the prosthesis are held together by two inelastic end strips, of which a first strip runs from the middle front of the tibia section upwards, outwards and obliquely backwards to the upper portion, and of which a second strip runs from the middle rear of the tibia section upwards, inwards and obliquely forward to the upper portion, whereby the strips are tensioned when the knee is extended and, when the knee is bent, are slightly tensioned in the unloaded state. In this way the movement processes prove to correspond better than hitherto to the natural movement processes.</p> |
