For displacing the superstructure (20) of a bridge, preferably a multispan reinforced concrete bridge, using timed shifting, sliding bearings (1) are utilised, which are arranged between the superstructure (20) and a bridge pier (4). These sliding bearings (1) are equipped with sliding plates (9) which are provided with a friction-reducing sliding layer, with which they slide on a sliding surface which is formed on the surface of a head plate (7) of a sliding bearing. The sliding plates (9) are fastened on one side on a traction mechanism, e.g. a link chain (14), which revolves at the side outside a sliding bearing (1) in a horizontal or essentially horizontal plane. As a result, it is brought about that the sliding plates, which travel over the sliding bearing with the superstructure, are drawn into the sliding gap again and again virtually automatically and that nevertheless the bearing pressure is delivered directly to the pier head. <IMAGE>
