The safety device is meant for parking facilities of the type in which the motor vehicles stand on pallets which can be raised or lowered by hoists and where further, laterally displaceable pallets can be pushed into the region of movement of these raisable pallets. In this arrangement, it is provided that, during the lifting movement of the raisable pallets, the latter interact with a safety catch (17) which can be pivoted about an axis (33) and exhibits a bearing means (18) for the pallet or for a supporting pin (19) of this pallet. The dead weight of the pallet retains the safety catch (17) in the secured position and, when the lifting drive is switched on, an electromagnet (23), which brings the safety catch (17) into a release position, is also actuated. <IMAGE>
