PURPOSE:To prevent the evaporation of ink as well as stabilize them temperature and viscosity of ink by a method in which the temperature of an ink jet head is kept at a specified temperature, and under the condition that the cap is slightly separated from the head, ink is preliminarily discharged. CONSTITUTION:When the power source of a printer is made, whether the temperature of an ink jet head 3 reaches a specified one or not is detected by a temperature detector 5. When the specified temperature is not reached, a heater 6 is turned ON to heat up the head 3. When the specified temperature is reached, the heater 6 is turned OFF, and a motor 8 is driven to operate a cam 16 to slightly separate the cap 17 from the head 3. Under the condition, ink is discharged preliminarily. Afterwards, the motor 8 is again operated to operate the cam 16 to cause the cap 17 to closely contact with the head 3. |
