A device for indicating the filling level in a container is described, in the case of which the analog signal of a measurement sensor is supplied to an analog/digital converter, the clock frequency of the clock generator allocated to this converter being initially set to a high value when the system is brought into use and subsequently being changed over to a lower value. This is intended to result in the present measurement being indicated quickly when the device is brought into use, but in measurement fluctuations being filtered out during the subsequent measurement.
