An ice-axe (1) for mountaineers has a shaft (2), on the bottom end (3) of which a hardened shaft tip (4) is arranged whose longitudinal axis (24) is in alignment with the shaft axis (11), and which carries at the top end (5) a pick (6) with a front axe prong (8) and a rear hammer head (9). So that the axe (1) can be used universally and its function as a climbing aid is improved, the shaft tip (4) can be shifted into a position (12) inclined relative to the shaft axis (11) and turned towards the axe prong (8). <IMAGE>
