An adjustable self-proportioning feeding apparatus in the form of an automatic feeder dispenses a smaller quantity of fodder when actuated by an animal, for example. Only after repeated actuation is the fixed quantity of fodder discharged, which is supplied to the apparatus from a central fodder store. When an animal actuates a bottom cover 4, the fodder 20 in the apparatus will be moved and thereby drop down along the cover 4 and down into a feeding trough 21, which is situated beneath the apparatus. The apparatus can be fitted on a front grille 22 in the stall in which the animals are accommodated. <IMAGE>
