In the case of a machine insert unit for a sewage pumping station, having a pump (11) which can be driven by a motor (10) and is connected to a suction pipe (19) and a pressure pipe (13), a closed suction vessel (14) is installed between the suction pipe (19) and the suction branch (12) of the pump (11), the vertical suction pipe (19) being guided into the suction vessel (14) through an opening located in the base (15) thereof and extending in said vessel over virtually the entire height thereof. This arrangement permits the pump (11) and the suction vessel (14) to be erected in the dry above the liquid level, while the suction pipe (19) dips into the liquid located therebeneath. <IMAGE>
