A hydrocarbon polymer is modified to improve dyeability, adhesive properties, printability and emulsifiability, by heating the polymer in the presence of a monosulfonazide RSO2N3 wherein R is an organic radical. The polymer may be polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene, styrenebutadiene rubber, butyl rubber, natural rubber, polybutadiene, polyisobutylene, ethylenepropylene copolymer, 1,4-polyisoprene, or ethylene propylenedicyclopentadiene terpolymer. The preferred azides are p-toluene-, 3-pyridine-and 1-pentane sulfonazides. The products find application as film, fibre and lubricant additives. |
