Screw-type surgical implant for cervical bones

The surgical implant for use in cervical arthrodesis is in the form of a short headless screw (11). The screw may be made from part of the patient's bone or from bone of animal origin. The depth of the screw thread (12) varies along the length of the screw and the screw has a central axial hole (13). The implant is inserted with an instrument consisting of an outer sheath with an inner sliding rod. This rod has a gripping device (31) at one end which is actuated by withdrawing it into the sheath. The rod is actuated by a knob (26) at the end opposite to the gripper.
