In order to avoid vibration of the outside rear view mirror (13) in motor vehicles or towing vehicles even when very wide trailers or attachments are being transported, the mirror holder (12) is supported, by means of a shaped extension piece (10), which is bent in a trapezoidal fashion, can be inserted into extension tubes (8, 9) which extend accordingly, and can be locked by fixing devices (11), on two points of a vertical holding rod (3) which is fastened by means of V-shaped pieces (1, 2) to the vehicle body. As the outside rear view mirror (13) extends further, the lower supporting point of the lower extension tube (9) is displaced downwards on the holding rod (3), extending the supporting base and preserving stability against vibration and shaking of the mirror. Clamping bearings (6, 7) which comprise two half shells and are pivotable about the holding rod (3) secure extension tubes (8, 9) and shaped extension piece (10) to the holding rod (3) in every pulled-out position, the maximum pulled-out position of the shaped extension piece (10) being limited by a lower bearing plate (5) which is fastened to the holding rod (3) and the upper clamping bearing (6) of the upper extension tube (8) being seated on an upper bearing plate (4) which is fastened to the holding rod (3). <IMAGE>
