A fluid-pressure-actuated immobilisation structure, which can be used in particular as a re-usable, temporary emergency support, contains a flexible, non-extensible outer container (10), a flexible, pore-free inner container (12) and a matrix material (14) which responds to pressure. The matrix material and the inner container are both arranged inside the outer container. The matrix material is structured such that it permits relatively unimpeded relative movement of the matrix elements under normal conditions but becomes consolidated to form an essentially rigid mass if it is squeezed under pressure, so that it consolidates the immobilisation structure into the shape existing directly before the application of pressure. Since the outer container is not extensible, application of pressure on the structure brings about consolidation of the same without exerting pressure on the patient. <IMAGE>
