In an electric flow heater, the heating bodies are to be switched off on the appearance of air bubbles in the cold water inlet 1. To this end, there is connected upstream of the Venturi nozzle 8 of a differential pressure switch a flow quantity stabiliser 6. Provided between the latter and the Venturi nozzle 8 is a flowthrough opening 16 which can be closed by a blocking member 14. The blocking member 14 closes the flowthrough opening 16 except for a residual cross-section 17 if, as a result of air bubbles, the flow quantity stabiliser 6 allows a raised pressure to occur in the main water flow. <IMAGE>
