Choline oleate of formula (I):- (I) has cholecystocinetic- and choleretic activity and increases the pancreatic flow. It may be used in the treatment of disorders of liver, gall bladder and pancreas. (I) has not only activity associated with each of its components but also increases the pancreatic secretion. (I) is water-soluble, does not cause spasms of the sphincter of Oddi and has no secondary action on the intestine. By reaction of oleic acid and the choline base in suitable solvent such as methanol. Alternatively a choline salt with another acid may be reacted with oleic acid such as choline bicarbonate and oleic acid in aqueous soln. Physical characteristics are given in the text. |
