Process for the diastereoselective reduction of alpha -triazolylketones to beta -triazolylcarbinols

Sterically uniform beta -triazolylcarbinols of the general structure <IMAGE> where R is not hydrogen, to be precise in particular the R*, S*-diastereomer, are obtained by diastereo selective reduction of a corresponding alpha -triazolylketone with a complex hydride, which reduces ketones to alcohols, in the presence of a Lewis acid in a non-polar solvent.
