An optical recording medium which is characterized by having superposed on a substrate a recording layer containing at least one dye or a dye and a resin and further containing, as a quencher, a compound represented by the following general formula I or a salt thereof. wherein R<1> and R<2> each stand for a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group or aryl group, R<3> stands for an alkyl group, a halogen atom or a group (wherein R<4> and R<5> each stand for a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group or aryl group), n stands for an integer of the value of 0 to 3 and M stands for a transition metal atom.
