PURPOSE:To reduce the frequency at which controlling actions such as error lock are performed, by operating a type-detecting means until the absence of malfunction of the type-detecting means is detected in the beginning period on throwing in a power source, and inhibiting controlling actions during the period. CONSTITUTION:A controlling part 1 is connected with an auto-clearing signal generating circuit 2 which supplies an auto-clearing signal RES to the controlling part 1 when the power source is thrown in. By the signal RES, a counter CC for counting character pulses CP in a processing circuit 9 is cleared, and a motor signal MT is set to logic '1' to drive a motor 14, thereby rotating a type wheel 17. The type wheel is rotated until the absence of malfunction of the type-detecting means 12 or a home position detecting means 13 is detected, the detecting means 12, 13 are idly operated until the operations thereof becomes normal, and error lock is inhibited during this period. |
