PURPOSE:To increase infrared-ray sensitivity by providing a flat plate or sheet type pyroelectric element arranged so that the direction of incident infrared rays is parallel to electrodes formed on both surfaces and an infrared-ray reflecting plate which irradiates the electrodes with infrared rays. CONSTITUTION:The sheet (pyroelectric element) 1 is so arranged that incident infrared rays 6 and 6' are parallel to surface directions of the electrodes 2 and 2' provided on both surfaces of the pyroelectric element 1. The electrodes 2 and 2' serve as photodetection surfaces for the infrared rays 6 and 6' and infrared-ray absorbing films 3 and 3' are formed on their surfaces. One of the electrodes 2 and 2', e.g. electrode 2 is connected to an FET and an impedance converter 5, and the other electrode 2' is grounded together with the case 9 of the detector. Plane mirrors 8 and 8' are arranged facing the electrodes 2 and 2' provided on the pyroelectric element 1 and the incident infrared rays 6 and 6' are reflected by plane mirrors 8 and 8' temporarily to irradiate the electrodes 2 and 2' with the reflected infrared rays 7 and 7' at the same time. Consequently, the intensity of infrared rays supplied to the pyroelectric element 1 is increased substantially. |
