PURPOSE:To simplify the constitution of an optical fiber coupler and to easily correct the direction of polarization by constituting an optical fiber coupler so that sectional linear parts of two D type fibers are close to each other. CONSTITUTION:An optical fiber 48 consists of D type optical fibers 36 and 40 so that their semicylindrically sectioned linear part 44 are close to each other. A light beam from a light emitting element 34 travels to right from the optical fiber coupler 48 through a fiber 36 and a rightward light beam from the fiber 36, on the other hand, is branched to the fiber 40 by the coupler 48 and inputted to a photodetector 38. The light beam from the laser 34, on the other hand, is inputted to both ends of a sensor coil 50 through a coupler 54 to generate a clockwise and a counter-clockwise light beam. Further, light beams outputted from both ends of the coil 50 are mixed by a coupler 54 and inputted to the photodetector 38 through the coupler 48, and the photodetector 38 calculates a quantity proportional to the angular speed of rotation from the amplitude of the angular frequency component of the light. |
