The compound (-)-trans-4-(4-florophenyl)-3-[(4-methoxyphenoxy)methyl]-1-methylpiper idine and pharmaceutically-acceptable acid addition salts thereof, pharmaceutical compositions thereof, and their use in potentiating the 5-hydroxytryptamine(5-HT) of a subject in need thereof, for the alleviation of any of various physiological abnormalities, are disclosed.
