PURPOSE:To decrease the fluid friction loss of an electric motor, by separating the inside of the pressure vessel of a nuclear reactor from the inside of the electric motor by a seal, and setting a cooling system by which gas is circulatingly fed into the electric motor so as to cool this electric motor. CONSTITUTION:A seal 21 which separates the inside of a pressure vessel 1 of a nuclear reactor from the inside of an electric motor chamber 16, is set on some intermediate position of a pump shaft 15, and a cooling system which is constituted of a blower 22, a heat exchanger 23, an intake nozzle 24a for refrigerant, an outlet nozzle 24b for refrigerant, and pipes 23a, 23b, is formed at the lower end of the output shaft 10b of the electric motor. As gas is used as refrigerant in this electric motor, the fluid friction loss of the electric motor and a loss due to driving the refrigerant can be decreased.
