PURPOSE:To suitably correct by displaying a handwriting image of a character which is not recognized together with other recognized character pattern. CONSTITUTION:A tablet device 11 detects a handwriting stroke of a character pattern handwriting inputted by the use of a writing centensils 12 on a tablet surface 11a as a time series of a position coordinate. The detected coordinate sequence is fed to a recognition processing section 13 in an order of input (order of a detection), a segmenting and recognition processing for one character is carried out and according to a segmented order, it is successively outputted to a recognition character display section 14a or a handwriting image display section 14b. In a display device 15, the image data of a standard character pattern inputted from the recognition character display section 14a and the coordinate value sequence data inputted from the handwriting image display section 14b are successively displayed according to an order of an input thereof. In accordance with an indication of the handwriting image display section 14b, a portion in which the handwriting image is displayed can be discriminated from other recognized character. Since a character to be corrected is displayed by the handwriting image as mentioned above, an operator is not required to see a copying sentence and inputs again seeing on a screen of a displayed image, thereby a correction efficiency is enhanced.
