PURPOSE:To improve the accuracy of off track volume detection by deriving the amplitude ratio of a reproduction waveform of a pair of servo signals, and detecting the off track volume from the amplitude ratio. CONSTITUTION:In detecting off track volume of a magnetic head from reproduction waveforms, that is, a pair of survo signals which contrarily increase and decrease in proportion to the reproduction wave form amplitude, namely the tracking error of the magnetic head, the amplitude ratio of a reproduction waveform of a pair of servo signals is derived and the volume of off track of the magnetic head is derived from the amplitude ratio. In such a way, the accurate off track volume is always detected even if any change may happen to the proportional constant of the reproduction waveform amplitude to the tacking error volume. |
