<p>This invention relates to a method for the methylation of non-alph-tocopherol compounds thereby producing the alpha-tocopherols having greater Vitamin E activity than the starting compounds. A feed material containing non-alpha-tocopherol compounds is contacted with formaldehyde to cause a hydroxymethylation and which is reduced, producing an alpha-tocopherol compound. Thereafter, the alpha-tocopherol compound produced is recovered.</p> |
