The coupling network has incoming and outgoing lines coupled to it and incoming digitally coded speech signals written cyclically into a speech store and read optionally from it, with control via a connection store, and connections between subscribers are switched through, with the speech - and connection -stores combined in the coupling network basic units. The basic units (KGO, ---- KGK) of the network are expanded by several speech stores (SSMO, SSMI ---- SSMK) of which one (SSM1) is connected on the input side to the incoming lines (PCMIN 1, ---- PCMIN ) connected to the expanded basic unit (KGO), while the other speech stores (SSM1, ---- SSMK) are joined to incoming lines connected to the other expansion units (KG1 ---- KGK).
