The activity of supported Ag catalysts is improved by appln. of 1-1000 mg Cs/kg catalyst, by impregnation at 60-200 deg.C with a soln. contg. CsOH and/or a Cs alcoholate of a lower satd. aliphatic alcohol, in a lower satd. aliphatic alcohol contg. 0-20 wt.% of water, followed by sepn. of excess soln. from the impregnated catalyst. - Pref. solvent is (m)ethanol or (iso)propanol contg. 0-5% of water. Pref. Cs cpd. is CsOH, Cs (m)ethylate, Cs (iso)propylate, or CsOH + 1 of these alcoholates. Pref. impregnation is at 80-150 deg.C. The amt. of Cs applied is 50-500 mg/kg catalyst. |
