1,3-Dihydro-6-aminomethyl -7-hydroxy furo-(3,4-c) pyridines of formula (I) and their salts are new. In (I), A1 and A2 = H, 1-5C straight chain satd. or unsatd. hydrocarbon, a heterocycle with up to 6 members, a carbomonocyclic gp., phenyl alkyl or phenylalkenyl, any of which may be substd. by Cl, F, CF3, 1-5C alkyl, alkoxy or alkylthio, di(1-5C)alkylamino, di(1-5C)alkylamino (1-5C)alkoxy, alpha or beta (1-5C)alkoxy-N-pyrrolidinyl; R1 and R2 = H, methyl or ethyl but are not both H, or R1 and R2 together with the N atom form a pyrrolidine, piperidine, morpholine or thiomorpholine gp. - Prepn. comprises a condensation of (II) and (III) then debenzylating to produce (I). The condensation is effected in a non-polar solvent at a temp. below 20 deg.C. Debenzylation is effected by acid hydrolysis.
