PURPOSE:To promote confidentiality when incoming message is reproduced by providing to an automatic answering unit with a means to send remote control signals in accordance with the remote control signals from a telephone set. CONSTITUTION:When a telephone set dials the extension number of an automatic answering unit 51 through button operation, the contact IX1 is turned on and the telephone set 4 is connected to the extension link 6 and to the unit 51 by the known control procedure. If the telephone set 4 sends the commands to the recording part such as rewinding, reproduction and fast forwarding, as remote control information, through button operation, the controller 14 controls the signal generator 10 to send the corresponding remote signals. The unit 51 receiving the signals operates in accordance with the commands and sends the incoming messages recorded while absent to the extension link 6 after reproducing them. Therefore, at the telephone set 4, the incoming messages can be heard through the receiver and confidentiality is kept even when there is a third party nearby.
