PURPOSE:To reproduce a high-quality picture by using repetitively a dither matrix so that the center of the dither matrix is on a line segment representing a screen angle desired to be set thereby setting simple the screen angle. CONSTITUTION:A dither unit comprising the combination between an NXN standard matrix Ma and an nXn auxiliary matrix Mb is combined at least by two units to form one set of composite unit and the composite units are arranged densely on a 2-dimensional plane. An optional rectangular matrix F is extracted among dense lattices comprising the composite units and the matrix F is stored in a fixed memory and used repetitively. Thus, the screen angle is set easily. Further, a supplementary angle of the screen angle given by the original matrix F is obtained by replacing the read address in lateral/ longitudinal directions in reading a threshold value in the matrix F.
