VERTICAL MAGNETIC RECORDING MEDIUM

PURPOSE:To form a vertical magnetic recording medium having satisfactory recording and reproducing characteristics by providing a columnar structure to at least part of a medium and specifying the average diameter of the columns. CONSTITUTION:A medium composed of columns of 50-600Angstrom diameter (d) is required so as to carry out recording and reproduction at >=100KFCI high recording density. The maximum recording density is high in the range of d=50-600Angstrom , and especially in the range of d=100-300Angstrom , noise is reduced. The diameter of columns relates generally to the film thickness of a medium. It is preferable that the thickness is regulated to <=0.5mum so as to attain <=600Angstrom diameter. This relation varies somewhat under conditions during manufacture.
