PURPOSE:To produce an electrode material having excellent stability and high electromotive force and energy density, by using a carbonaceous material having specific pseudographite structure and electron structure and prepared by the carbonization of a condensed polycyclic hydrocarbon compound or a polycyclic hetero-ring compound. CONSTITUTION:A compound selected from condensed polycyclic hydrocarbon compounds and polycyclic hetero-ring compounds (preferably 1,2,4,5- tetracarboxylic acid, 1,2,4,5-tetracarboxylic acid diimide, etc. of benzene) is carbonized in vacuum or in an inert gas. A carbonaceous material produced by the above process and having a pseudographite structure characterized by the (002) spacing (d002) of >=3.40Angstrom by wide angle X-ray diffraction and the crystallite dimension of >=220Angstrom along the C axis, and an electron structure characterized by the line width between the peaks of the primary differential absorption spectrum of electron spin resonance of >=7 Gauss is used as the objective electrode material. |
