PURPOSE:To make it possible to detect a rotary angle up to a high speed rotary region with high resolving power and to facilitate setting, by mounting a photo electric converter for outputting laser beam, which is inputted through the predetermined slit provided to a slit disc along the peripheral direction thereof, while converting the same to a corresponding electric signal. CONSTITUTION:Pulse signals Lp, Lp' incident to optical fiber cables 43, 47 are guided to the other terminals of said optical fiber cables 43, 47 to be allowed to irradiate the beam receiving surfaces of opposed pin photodiodes 60, 60'. The pin photodiodes 60, 60' output the incident optical pulse signals Lp, Lp' while change over the same to corresponding electric pulse signals P, P' which are, in turn, converted to corresponding voltage pulse signals by current/voltage converter circuits 81, 82 and said voltage pulse signals are outputted as rectangu lar wave pulse signals P1, P2 by wave form shaping circuits 83, 84. The pulse signal P1 is displayed, for example, as the rotary speed signal of a crank shaft and the pulse signal P2 as a rotary reference signal.
