PURPOSE:To separate and to recover 1,2-dichloroethane from a mixed solution of 1,2-dichloroethane and hexamethyldisiloxane, by adding conc. sulfuric acid to the mixed solution, and esterifying hexamethyldisiloxane selectively. CONSTITUTION:Conc. sulfuric acid is added to a mixed solution 1,2- dichloroethane obtained in silylation by the use of 1,2-dichloroethane as a solvent especially in the production of drug, etc., and hexamethyldisiloxane as a by- product, hexamethyldisiloxane is selectively converted into a sulfuric ester, the reaction is separated into two layers, the sulfuric acid layer (lower layer) containing the ester is separated and removed, and 1,2-dichloroethane layer (upper layer) is recovered. By this method, burning treatment of the mixed solution is not required, 1,2-dichloroethane is recovered and reusable, it is advan tageously usable as a solvent for silylation.
