PURPOSE:To enhance the running performance of a vehicle and to make a differential gear unit compact, by disposing a slip limiting type differential gear unit in a closed oil chamber independent from a differential gear carrier. CONSTITUTION:A slip limiting type differential gear unit 3 is disposed in a closed oil chamber 29 independent from a differential gear carrier 5. With this arrangement the function of frictional resistance and viscous resistance in combination may be obtained so that the relative rotation may be reduced, and therefore, an optimum torque may be transmitted to first and second output shafts 21, 23 over a high speed range, thereby it is possible to stabilize the running performance of the vehicle. Further no special unit having the function of a viscous resistance is required to be provided, and therefore, the device as a whole may be made compact.
