PURPOSE:To increase the effect of deceleration, by controlling the degree of opening of a throttle valve depending on the quantity of remaining fuel in the fuel passage of a carburetor when the fuel quantity of fuel is reduced at the time of deceleration. CONSTITUTION:In steps SO1-SO2 it is judged whether or not a vehicle is in such an operation range as to perform decelation fuel reduction. If it is judged that the vehicle is in the operation range, steps SO4-SO5 are taken so that the degreeof opening of a throttle valve is controlled to a deceleration level Ttheta1 slightly higher than an idling level Ttheta0, for a time T1 corresponding to the consumption of fuel remaining in a fuel passage. When it is detected in the stepSO5 that the time T1 has elapsed, the degree of opening of the throttle valve is controlled to a return level Ttheta2. The effect of deceleration is thus increased.
