The subject of the invention relates to the technical field of accessories and equipment for cycles, especially gear changes and their control means. The device is noteworthy in that the manoeuvring lever or handle 10 is shaped and arranged to interact with means for controlling, adjusting and indexing 9-8-6, the said means, combined with the lever, from a neutral position, being capable, in the first instance, on the one hand, of tensioning or slackening the cable at each inversion of the direction of the pulse exerted on the lever and, on the other hand, in the second instance, of acting on the said cable for the transverse movement of the chain guide for the passage or selection of one or more gears depending on whether there is a pedalling action or not. The invention applies to all types of rear gear changing. <IMAGE>
