PURPOSE:To decrease the arithmetic frequency without requiring the setting of an initial value by comparing the product of the supposed quotient and a divisor with a dividend and a deciding 0 or 1 successively from higher bits of the quotient based on the result of said comparison. CONSTITUTION:A dividend, a divisor and the quotient are referred to as A, B and Q respectively and set at the numerical values of the floating point type down to the n-th decimal place. Under such conditions, it is decided whether each bit is equal to 0 or 1 in the order of q0, q1-qn for the quatient of an equation A/B=Q=q0.q1q2-qn-. Then a division is carried out. Q'=1.00-0 is set at the first and then the quatient Q' is applied by the divisor B of a divisor memory means 2 through a multiplication means 4 to obtain a product A'.
