PURPOSE:To provide an Ni-Zn ferrite having its density of 99.9% or more of its theoretical density and no fine hole of its diameter of 2mum or more by defining a composition of Fe2O3,ZnO and NiO. CONSTITUTION:After Fe2O3 of 49.5-50mol%, ZnO of 25-35mol% and residual raw material powder of NiO are compounded and mixed, they are calcined and press molded. After they are heated up to the temperature 1,100-1,300 deg.C in the atmosphere of air or oxygen as presintering, they are hot press treated under hydrostatic pressure in inactive gas in the condition that the pressure is in 500-200kg/cm<2>, the temperature is in 1,000-1,400 deg.C and the holding time is in 0.5-5hr, and if required, they are subjected to heat treatment such as annealing. The Ni-Zn ferrite obtained in this way has a high density, a high electric resistance and superior magnetic characteristics. Moreover, since it has no fine hole of its diameter of 2mum or more, it is superior as a substrate for a thin film head.
