PURPOSE:To prepare the titled substance having high optical purity, easily, by hydrolyzing DL-alpha-chloropropionic acid ester in the presence of a cultured product of microbial strain belonging to Bacillus genus, Staphylococcus genus or Enterobacter genus. CONSTITUTION:A microbial strain such as Bacillus megaterium, Bacillus cereus, Staphylococcus warneri, Enterobacter cloacae, etc. is cultured, and a DL-alpha- chloropropionic acid ester is hydrolyzed in the presence of the cultured product, cultured microbial cells separated from the cultured product, or the extract of the cultured microbial cell. The reaction is carried out in an aqueous solution containing a buffering liquid, and the product is recovered by extraction or distillation. |
