PURPOSE:To manufacture the titled film without generating any curls by using an diamino compd. consisting essentially of DDBP and an aromatic tetracarboxylic acid compd. consisting essentially of 3,3',4,4'- biphenyltetracarboxylic acid dianhydride. CONSTITUTION:A polyimide precursor is obtained by allowing a diamino compd. contg. 80-99.9mol% (A) component, as in the following, and 0.1-10mol% (B) component to react with a tetracarboxylic acid compd. consisting essentially of (C) component. A soln. of said polyimide precursor in an org. polar solvent is coated on foil, and heated to form a polyimide thin film. (A) is 3,3'- dimethyl-4,4'-diaminobiphenyl, (B) is silicon diamine expressed by the formula (R1 is a methylene group, a phenylene group, etc., R2 is a methylene group, a phenylene group, etc., X is O, a phenylene group, etc., (n) is 1 when R1 is a phenylene group or a substituted phenylene group and 3 or 4 when R1 is a methylene group), and (C) is one of 3,3',4,4'-diphenyltetracarboxylic acid dianhydride and its derivative.
