PURPOSE:To measure the quantity of oil mist in a cylinder directly by printing and depositing oil mist to the surface of a heater kept at a high temperature in oil mist atmosphere and detecting the quantity of the oil mist as an electric resistance change due to the formation of the deposit. CONSTITUTION:When current is supplied form an external power supply to a heating wire 1b, the heating wire 1b generates heat and the surface temperature of a coat 1c is heated up to 750-900 deg.C. If oil mist exists in helium atmosphere in a compression room or the like of a compressor under the heated status, the mist is printed and deposited on the coat 1c. When the deposit is stacked, the surface of the insulating coat 1c is turned to conductive status and resistance between the electrodes 1d of a sensor 1 is reduced. The change of the resistance between the electrodes 1d can be measured by an external circuit through a pin terminal 1g. Since the oil mist printed on the surface of the coat 1c of the sensor 1 is stacked in accordance with the time and the concentration of the mist, the quantity of the oil mist indicates an integrated value. Thereby, the quantity of oil mist can be detected from the resistance value R between the electrodes 1d of the sensor 1 by previously testing the relation among the mist concentration, time and the resistance.
