PURPOSE:To increase the capacity of a silver oxide battery and improve its closed-circuit voltage characteristic by assuring the conductivity of the battery during initiation of electric discharge by using a positive electrode which is formed by compressing and molding silver oxide particles consisting of manganese dioxide nuclei coated with silver oxide and has a silver layer touching the separator. CONSTITUTION:A positive electrode 1 formed by compressing and molding silver oxide particles 10 consisting of manganese dioxide nuclei 11 coated with silver oxide 12, has a silver layer 1a which touches a separator 2. The silver oxide particles 10 are formed either by depositing silver oxide over the surfaces of manganese dioxide nuclei during synthesis of silver oxide or by making silver oxide particles to be adsorbed on manganese dioxide particles. It is preferable that the amount of manganese dioxide be 1-10wt% of the silver oxide particles 10. The surface silver layer 1a of the positive electrode 1 is formed either by immersing the positive electrode 1 in a solution of a reducing agent such as hydrazine or by subjecting the battery to partial electric discharge after its assembly. |
