PURPOSE:To attain ease of paper jamming processing by providing a release means by which a contact type sensor is operated from the outside of the titled reader. CONSTITUTION:An original release knob 2 molded by a resin is fitted to the tip of an arm 13 and the knob 2 is projected externally from an upper cover 9 through the opening 22 of the upper cover 9. If paper jam takes place, a force is exerted to the original release knob 2 in the direction of arrow A. Then the arm 13 turns clockwise around a dowel 12 and the contact type sensor 11 is parted from a platen roller 16. Thus, jammed originals 19 clipped by the platen roller and an original inlet guide 5 are made free. While keeping the state, the rear end of the jammed original 19 is pulled slowly. The paper jamming is released by this operation only.
