The vehicle chassis comprises a main frame supported on at least one wheel pair on a sub-frame which is longitudinally movable by hydraulic actuators relative to the main frame. This adjusts the position of the wheels relative to the c.g. of the load carried and to the towing vehicle if the chassis is that of a trailer. - The sub-frame may carry two wheel pairs and the chassis may be that of a tanker vehicle. The sub-frame may be provided with transverse shafts carrying wheels supported on the lower flange of U-section longitudinal main frame members.
