A drying press for skins has two endless felt bands between which the sking is pulled through a gap loaded by back-up rolls. A lower cross stretching device(7) above the lower felt band and below the skin can be moved towards the roll gap and away from it. An upper cross stretching device consists of two endless stretch belts(8) which are arraned above the lower stretching device in its most advanced position and revolve in symmetry in opposite directions from the centre line. This treats a hide in one pass without forming any folds.
