Formaldehyde copolymer is prepd. by the copolymerization of formaldehyde with cyclic formal. The structural formulas of cyclic formal are I and II (R1,R2,R3,R4 = hydrogen, alkyl, aryl, cycloalkyl) . A mixer is continuously supplied with formaldehyde, cyclic formal and an inert organic solvent. In the mixer, formaldehyde is copolymerized with cyclic formal. This reaction is catalized by trifluoroborane or its ester complex. The produced copolymer has proper molecular weight and is stable in basic media. This method gives products high yield.
