PURPOSE:To reduce time and labor without contaminating a detecting space by floating a suspended matter having density equal to air density in the detecting space, detecting the position of the suspended matter with time series and calculating the speed and direction of the air flow together with the positional change and the time required for the change. CONSTITUTION:A balloon into which gaseous He or gaseous H2 is sealed is used as a tracer 12 having density equal to air density in a clean room. Message sensors 13, 14 are perpendicularly arranged to detect the movement of the tracer 12 in the clean room 11 as image signals and store two static images in a memory 18 at the same time synchronously with a clock from a clock generating part 17. The image data are transmitted to a computer 19 to calculate a three-dimensional position from the two-dimensional position of the tracer 12. In addition, the position of the tracer 12 at each time can be obtained by sampling the static images at a fixed time interval, so that the speed and direction of the air flow can be calculated. Consequently, the movement of the distribution of air flow can be detected rapidly, precisely and visually if necessary.
